Random Question?

Question for you all.....

So, while DeLoy is in the process of opening up his clinic I was thinking of being a nanny for some extra mula. It would be at my house with my 2 kids there as well.

So I am wondering how much I should charge per hour?
And if it should be per child?(they are two seperate things right?!)

And does anyone know of anyone in Vegas who needs a nanny and can actually pay what it is worth?

I nannied in GA while Randy was in law school and took Savannah with me. It depends on where you live, if you are going to their house vs them coming to you, and whether you have your own kids with you too, but California should be a good market. I would say $12-$15/hr would be a very fair rate, if you do have your own kids with you. If not, maybe closer to $20. Much of it depends on the market surrounding you. Another consideration might be whether you have previous references.

Are you getting a nanny? That is my next aspiration to get one! Or instead I would hire a house cleaner and bill payer so that I could play with my kids instead of having to do all the other boring stuff. :)

If I was to hire one while I was working from home I would probably pay minimum wage, which is about $8here in Utah. If the nanny was at my house without me there I would pay a little more.

I used to pay a lady who babysat kids in her home, (while I finished school) she charged $2.50-3.50 per hour.

I pay 8 dollars/hour for just S. If you were JUST watching someone else's kids, you could charge more, but you're also watching yours, and it's at your house. When I have 2, I think I paid 10. I think I'd pay 12 now, maybe. Not really sure. I always ask and people say "whatever" -- but mine's always pretty random and just a day here and there.

If you are watching them at your house, it poses some issues if you are going for the big bucks, at least if your other party wants to do it "legally" - which allows them to write off childcare expenses for tax purposes. You can ask your dad about this too. If you do it in their home, you are asking them to pay for unemployment and other gov benefits, besides do all that paperwork for you. If not, you have to do it. Just something to think about. I would say, for one family, charge a starting rate, say $10-12/hr and increase by $3/4 increments per child. Have you thought about maybe teaching a dance class (or two or three) on the side? Sometimes you can do this at a local community center (just pay a fee to use the facility) or you may even check out the YMCA. If you charged each child $10/class and you had 8 kids, you have $80/hr, if you can find a place that will allow you to do it on your terms.

I think you are crazy but I would charge $10 an hour and more if it is a child under 1 (they need more work) Be careful though becuase you are watching others' children, ther are lots of regulations you have to meet in your house if you are going to go through the right way and do it proffessionally ( I think the state comes to do a house visit to make sure everything is ok) I know my mom did this even for a good friend and was accused of child abuse ( r u kidding me) anyways lots to think about, I would go with the dance lessons (less time, more money) Good luck!!

You should ask Joeley Garcia or Kristy Prestwich...they are the queens of nanny-ing. I believe Joeley is a nanny right now.

I haven't commented on your blog before, but I wanted to let you know what I currently pay someone. I pay $25 a day, one flat rate, not hourly. That is usually 8:30-5:30. I was a nanny when I was just starting to do hair and I only got paid $50 a day and it was at their house and it was from 7-6, that is 4.50 an hour. I know that if you are going to end up watching kids for LDS families, you will most likely get less. I wouldn't be able to justify me working at an office all day to pay my nanny/babysitter half of my wages! It wouldn't be worth the time away! I know that I have a friend though that gets paid 75.00 a day for one kid, they are not LDS. Usually if you have an LDS mother working it is because their family needs the money! But you just need to set your price, either all day or hourly and then see who you can get to come! Good Luck with everything!

I actually do this once a week. It's for an old young women leader of mine. I go to her house and I bring Sadie with me. She has two boys at home one that is the same age as Sadie (18 mo.) and the other is 5. The 5 yr. old is only there half the time because he gets picked up for kindergarden. She pays me $10 an hour and I think it is totally fair. She has a pack n play we set up in one of her rooms and Sadie takes a nap there in the afternoon. I also watch her kids when her and her husband go out of town. Then Kip and I are staying at her house. If you want to know more about the pricing for that let me know on my blog! Good luck with it, I think it's a fun side job and a play date for Sadie I get paid for!
